Contract Cleaning Services for Healthier, More Productive Staff

Contract Cleaning Services for Healthier, More Productive Staff
In recent years, there has been a lot in the news concerning workplace ergonomics and safety. More and more, both the skilled trades and service sectors are reporting productivity losses related to easily preventable problems ranging from spinal and low-back injuries to carpal tunnel syndrome following years of working in a poorly-designed office space. Injuries of this nature can be equally insidious and serious.

But did you know that your staff may be suffering just as much from poor indoor air quality and exposure to air and surface contaminants?

Most people do not realise that indoor air is often up to ten times more polluted than ambient air. The fact that you cannot see air pollutants does not mean they are not there! If you have ever been in an office space that seemed “stuffy,” and the stuffiness was fixed by turning on a fan or opening the windows on a nice day, then you can appreciate the effect that poorly-circulated indoor air can have on the well-being and morale of your staff.

A lot of that stuffiness comes from dust, odours trapped by wall-to-wall carpeting and invisible bacterial growth on commonly-used surfaces ranging from computer keyboards to virtually any surface in the office bathrooms. During cold season in particular, your staff are at a greater risk for catching colds and other viruses as a result of contact with surface contaminants. And those minor illnesses can add up quickly in terms of increased sick days and lost productivity.

On the bright side, having a happy, healthy staff may be as easy as scheduling regular cleaning by a contract cleaning service. From autumn to spring, office managers and other responsible parties should give special consideration to the type of cleaning service they use for the benefit of their staff and, ultimately, their bottom line. Your staff are likely to feel valued and actually perform better knowing that management has their best interests at heart.

Christmas Gifts for the Kitchen & Home
There are many who simply love cooking and their kitchen represents their pride and joy. So with Christmas Gift shopping now rapidly approaching how would you ‘Christmas shop for a cook’. Options would include the giving of a single spectacular piece of equipment that will get used three or four times a year and sit in the cupboard alongside the electric knife the rest of the time.  Or, with everyone watching their budgets this year, save some money and look at one of several relatively inexpensive kitchen gifts available that will probably get used on a regular basis.

Tams Tyres – Supplying Tyres for the North East

Tams Tyres – Supplying Tyres for the North East
Tyres are one of the most important safety features on your car or vehicle. After all, your tyres are the only thing that connects the car to the road surface, and other technologies such as antilock braking systems and electronic stability controls cannot do their job if the tyres don’t have a good grip on the road surface. Yet tyres are often considered to be one of the least understood components of our vehicles.

As everyone’s driving needs are different, it makes sense that no one single type of tyre is best. Like most things in life, what tyres are the best for you may not be appropriate for another driver.

When replacing your car tyres it pays to speak to a specialist, someone like Tams Tyres of Gateshead who have been supplying high quality, low cost tyres to drivers of all vehicles across Gateshead, Newcastle & the North East. Tams Tyres carry a wide range of leading brand names tyres and after discussing the type of driving you do will be able to offer the very best advice and recommendations as to which tyre to fit to your vehicle.  Remember, cheaper quality and poorly manufactured tyres will likely wear out much quicker than good quality tyres, plus can often lead to extended stopping distances and may result in less control during an emergency manoeuvre.

Tyres, like most things in life, can be something of a trade-off. Performance Tyres can often wear out quicker than ‘regular tyres’ – obviously depending on your driving technique and the road conditions, while general road tyres will provide a more comfortable ride but be less agile in the corners. Again, speak to your tyre dealer about any possible trade-offs for the type of tyres you are considering buying.

Most modern cars will come with general all-season tyres fitted. These are great for most people for most conditions, however if you live where it snows a lot, then you may wish to consider buying a set of snow Tyres (sometimes referred to as winter Tyres) and use them throughout the winter months. All-season tyres are designed to handle all weather conditions. Snow / Winter Tyres are designed with one thing in mind: to help you drive more safely and improve road traction when temperatures are low and the roads are covered in snow and ice.

Many drivers will fit a car tyre then forget it. Even allowing for modern tyre reliability and manufacturing methods, this can be a mistake as tyres are NOT maintenance free items! It is estimated that an average tyres will lose around 1 psi of pressure per month so it is a good idea to check your tyre inflation pressures and inspect their general tread condition on a weekly basis. Underinflated tyres can impact upon your cars fuel efficiency, reducing the miles per gallon you achieve – costing you money, and are more likely to suffer a puncture. Remember, you can’t tell the tyre pressure is low just by looking.

So, how can you increase the lifespan of your car tyres? Adopt the following and you could put off having to make a trip to your local tyre dealership for at least a couple of months. Regularly check your tyre pressure and tread condition. This probably won’t involve any more than a couple of minutes, but that time spent checking your tyres could alert you to any problems that might have arisen. Check the surface of the tyres for cracks and odd looking bulges. Try to avoid accelerating to quickly form traffic lights of junctions. Wheel skid may sound good but it’s a great way to quickly wear out your tyres. These alone could prolong the lifespan of your tyres significantly.

It is also important to recognise that there is a legal requirement to maintain your car or other vehicle tyres. Remember, this legal requirement exists to help keep you, other drivers and pedestrians remain safe, and to prevent accidents occurring on the roads.

If you would like a free tyre check and live in the Gateshead or Newcastle area of then call Tam Tyres now on 0191 4604809 or visit the Tam Tyres website today.

Searching for the Perfect Christmas Gifts

Searching for the Perfect Christmas Gifts
Shopping for the Christmas holidays can present different challenges from one gift recipient to the next, as people can be “hard to shop for” in a number of ways.  While some people seem to buy everything they want for themselves and never have a “wish list” which a thoughtful gift might satisfy, the preferences of others can simply be very difficult to guess.

Other challenges when shopping for Christmas gifts include staying within a shopping budget and deciding what price range is appropriate for a given item or even for the recipient, as not everyone on your list will be comfortable receiving an expensive gift. When shopping for Christmas gifts, it is often helpful to seek out gifts for the home which are both attractive and practical. When doing so, you are likely to find the ideal gift for everyone on your list.

Christmas gifts which are both decorative and practical are perfect for many women with domestic interests or hobbies, and a shop specializing in gifts for the home will often have things that she will both need and want.

Many basic home decorations can serve practical purposes such as covering and protecting furniture, giving a bathroom a more posh feel or even brightening up an otherwise purely functional kitchen. Floral-patterned tea cosies, matching kitchen towels and a beautiful chenille or damask tablecloth are all simple gifts which will cheer up almost any kitchen or dining room space, and all are available from www.thehomeandgiftshop.com. For anyone on your Christmas shopping list who entertains regularly, furniture covers make a very practical gift which will also liven up the guest space and give the giver and recipient something to enjoy in future visits.

Since everyone takes note of what one keeps in one’s bathroom when they come to visit, an attractive set of matching towels and bath mats will also give the recipient something that they can both use and display when company comes over.

While men are sometimes quick to dismiss the need for anything “practical,” such items often make the best men’s gifts since they tend to be exactly what they need but do not wish to buy until it is absolutely necessary. In all likelihood, clothing and other items used at home are at the top of this list for at least one of the men on your Christmas shopping list. For the gentleman who claims not to want or need anything, consider a gift such as a finely knit Argyll sweater with matching Argyll socks or an Edwin Jagger shaving gift box set. Likewise, a smart-looking tweed flat cap or a fleece dressing gown with matching slippers will be very appreciated in the dead of winter.

Another advantage of shopping for Christmas gifts from a shop specializing in gifts for the home is that men and women who enjoy the outdoors can both enjoy gifts related to their common interest. Since many married couples consider gardening a shared hobby, gifts for such couples will often be items that they needed anyway and which will be appreciated even more since it relates to an activity that they enjoy together.

Gifts such as natural-coloured cushions for wooden outdoor chairs will make the outdoor living space more enjoyable, and books on gardening can provide new information for home gardeners while making an attractive addition to their books on display. Even a new pair of gardening gloves will always have a place in the home of someone who enjoys gardening. If anyone on your Christmas shopping list has an interest in backyard birds, a set of suet cakes and suet block feeders will always come in handy, and a large, airtight tin for holding bird seed can solve a storage problem and make an attractive addition to the backyard, a conservatory space or even a kitchen countertop.

Reasonably-priced gifts for the home from The Home and Gift Shop will make ideal Christmas gifts for many, if not all, of the people you plan to shop for this holiday season. By shopping at the right place, you are bound to find the ideal gift for everyone on your list. With the Christmas season fast approaching, now is the time to make those purchases so that you can visit with friends and family and enjoy the holiday to its fullest without any worries about getting all the Christmas shopping done in time.

So were to find these great Christmas gift ideas? Online shopping websites such as the Home and Gift shop offer convenience and range, offering everything for the home and garden, including a diverse range of home & garden furniture, including a range of gift ideas for the kitchen and bedroom, many of which you probably never knew existed. And, by shopping online, you will often also be able to find high quality items at bargain prices, something that every homemaker will appreciate! So, be creative and have fun when choosing your Christmas gifts and remember, you can browse an ever growing range of gifts for the home and garden twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week at the Home and Gift Shop.

Noise Flanking & Sound Insulation Test Failure

Noise Flanking & Sound Insulation Test Failure
Sound can and will move from one room to another through direct and indirect paths. In all cases a varying amount of energy will travel through or around a walls and or floors & ceilings.

Sound can travel through materials such as ductwork, stud and ceiling joist cavities. Sound can also travel along studwork, joists, pipes, concrete and glass. Sound vibration usually passes along rigid surfaces. You can easily isolate materials via the use of reliant layers and acoustic insulation which is often enough to pass the Part E Sound Insulation Testing.

Common Noise Flanking Paths One of the most common noise flanking pathways is through the bottom of the wall/floor junctions. In some constructions there is a joist system that travels under the offending wall. The floor systems on either side of the wall is connected to the top of the floor, i.e. 18mm plyboard so while there is no open air path through the walls the floor can conduct the vibration from one side of the acoustic partition to the other, which may lead to sound testing failure.

Another very common noise flanking path is through the ceiling joist system. Often ceiling voids are common to both rooms/abutting plots with just one layer of board to the underside of the joists/trusses. Vibrations from the offending room are transmitted through this weak point through the joists/trusses themselves. You may need to sound proof the ceiling above with insulation and two layers of acoustic board.

Also, during the site construction, operatives will often jack the plasterboard tight to the ceiling in order to achieve a nice tight joint at the ceiling. This often leaves a void or potential noise transference point at the floor/wall junction, which will eventually be covered with a piece of thin skirting board. Failure to fill the joint between the wall and the floor with acoustic mastic can reduce even a 50dB rated wall to under 40dB which will fail the sound test target of 45dB, as stipulated within the Building Regulations Part E.

Doors are often one of the weakest links when it comes to acoustic partitions. Both residential and commercial doors are usually poor isolators of airborne sound. Two main reasons for poor acoustic performance is lack of mass and poor door seals to the doors and frames. Many doors are hollow core and are often filled with lightweight insulators like Styrofoam. One simple upgrade is to change the doors to either MDF or particleboard construction.

In regards to the door seals standard door weather strip usually works well for the top and two sides of the door, but that big gap on the bottom of the door is too big for thin weather-strip. Consider installing a dedicated door threshold to the underside of the door, then seal with a door sweep. Another simple option is to make sure the gap to the bottom of the door is not too big.

In Summary the main noise flanking paths are as follows:

  1. Dividing Floors – Through Floor and Floor Joist Space (if insulation has not been installed or direct fixing to joists without a drop ceiling below the partition under test)
  2. Dividing Ceilings – Above and Through the Ceiling Space (where an adequate acoustic break has not been carried on through the ceiling void)
  3. Shared Structural Building Components – Floor Boards, Floor Joists, Continuous Drywall Partitions, Continuous Concrete Floors, and Cement Block Walls.
  4. Plumbing Chases – Junctures Between the Walls & Floor Slab Above or at the Exterior Wall Juncture (this should be filed with mortar etc. to add mass to this weakened area)
  5. Around the End of the Partition Through the Adjacent Wall (acoustic mastic should be used to seal this junction)
  6. Through Structural Steel (structural steel beams are often a major cause of noise transmission as plasterboard is often fixed directly to the steel without sound breaks)
  7. Through Windows (if they are no double glazed or have secondary glazing as a minimum)
  8. Fixtures & Outlets – Light Switches, Telephone Outlets, and Recessed Lighting Fixtures (if penetrations have been cut back to back with the opposite dwelling under test)
  9. Structural Joints – Perimeter Joints at Wall & Floor, Through Wall & Ceiling Junctures (these should be filled with acoustic mastic)

Unfortunately, sound will always find the weakest link, so you must always think about the acoustic design and isolations of materials from the initial design stage of the project.

If you would like more information in regards to Acoustic design and/or sound testing please contact us now at info@aptsoundtesting.co.uk, call 07775 623464 or visit the APT Sound Testing website.

Wedding Dress Cleaning in the UK

Wedding Dress Cleaning Services in the UK
He’s finally asked the big question, and the day you’ve dreamed of since you were a girl is now just around the corner. So many things to organize: the venue for the ceremony and the reception, how far and wide to send the wedding invitations, dresses for the bridesmaids and, of course, your wedding dress.

Today’s weddings are more expensive than ever, regularly comparing in price to a new car. Not the least of the expenses is the wedding dress. For many married women, the wedding dress is far and away the most expensive article of clothing they will ever wear. While the occasion certainly warrants it – after all, it’s a rare event in one’s life – a wedding dress is typically expensive to acquire and, potentially when searching for professional wedding dress cleaning services, can prove expensive..

Although one never sees it in photos taken by a professional photographer several days before the wedding, the potential for your wedding dress to acquire stains is significant. Depending on weather conditions, inside temperature and the nervousness that is to be expected on your wedding day, you may have sweat stains form in the bodice area and elsewhere. Stains from food and wine at the wedding reception are another distinct possibility. Some of the most common ones, such as sugar stains from champagne and cake icing, are nearly invisible at the time they are created, and these stains can set and darken over time.

The good news is that, although your wedding dress will not likely survive the big day entirely stain-free, taking steps ahead of time to ensure that the dress is professionally cleaned and preserved within an appropriate timeframe will greatly improve the odds of your dress being restored to its original condition. Taking the dress for cleaning within one month of the wedding is sufficient for many wedding dresses (so no need to shorten the honeymoon to save your dress), assuming there are no stains that need immediate attention. Otherwise, arrange to have it cleaned within a few days or as soon after the wedding as possible.

All brides-to-be should understand the cleaning and preservation process for wedding dresses so that appropriate arrangements can be made prior to the day of the wedding. While considerably more complicated than that of most other special-care garments, a good bit of planning and forethought will ensure that your cherished wedding dress and future family heirloom will survive the decades as well as the new life you are about to begin.

First and foremost, understand that the care for such a garment will be considerably more specific and expensive than for most other dry-clean-only or other special-care garments. If the process seems a bit overwhelming and you feel as though you have been tasked with preserving a treasure, it’s because you have. With that in mind, you will want to begin by consulting with a specialty wedding dress cleaner. One way that you will know you are dealing with a reputable company is that they will not charge a flat fee for all wedding dresses. Different dresses have different cleaning and storage requirements, and the right wedding dress cleaner will recommend a telephone consultation or that you bring in your wedding dress to be inspected before they provide a quote for the cleaning and preservation.

Where preservation is concerned, you will want to make sure that your wedding dress cleaning company makes a point of preserving your wedding dress in acid-free tissue paper when storing it in an archival box. The museum preservation method is another option, but it usually costs more. Once you have had your wedding dress cleaned and preserved, be sure to store the dress in a cool, dark area free of moisture and sunlight. Avoid storing the dress in areas of the house such as the attic or basement, as they typically do not benefit from the climate controls in the main living space. If storing in a rented storage space, make sure that it is climate-controlled.

As with many other aspects of your wedding plans, it may seem as though the devil is in the details when it comes to having your wedding dress professionally cleaned and preserved. By knowing those details beforehand and making arrangements with a specialty cleaning and preservation company, you can rest assured that the dress in which you have made a substantial investment will be just as beautiful several decades from now as the day you walked down the aisle.

Imagine handing your precious wedding gown into the protection of the safest, most caring hands there are; gentle hands that will love it, respect it, nurture it and expertly clean and restore it, preserving the exquisite memories invested in every thread now and for the future.

Internet Marketing to Promote Your Business during Christmas

Internet Marketing to Promote Your Business during Christmas
It’s no secret that people in every age group are considerably more tech-savvy than they were a generation ago. Thanks to the Internet, there is virtually no product, service or answer to a question that cannot be tracked down through an online search. What this means for business, all through the year but particularly during Christmas, is that someone out there is looking for your product or service and you need to know how to position yourself favourably online in order to get their attention and, in turn, their business.

Why your business needs a website
Most businesses these days understand the power of the Internet for expanding the firm’s clientele. Businesses that ignore the benefits of having an official website do so at their peril; if you don’t develop the image you present to the world via cyberspace, then any number of online directories with independent reviewers will develop an incomplete one for you. While websites dedicated to rating and reviewing different companies’ products and services are an excellent resource for people who have a need for what your business provides, you don’t want these websites to be a potential client’s only way of knowing what you have to offer.

Developing and maintaining a website not only helps to promote your business; it can often mean the difference between a consumer knowing exactly – and in your words – what your business offers and having to rely entirely on reviews from past customers, some of whom might have given a low rating or negative review simply because your entirely worthy product or service was not the one that suited the negative reviewer’s needs at the time.

The power of SEO
While the majority of both public agencies and private firms understand the importance of a well-designed and regularly updated website as a tool for communicating with current and future clients, not so many have discovered the benefits of search engine optimisation, or SEO, for enhancing their online presence and promoting their products and services. Simply put, SEO entails developing meaningful online content, in the form of general articles, company blog posts and your own web copy, containing keywords and key phrases that potential clients are using to locate companies like yours through online searches.

The more specific your keywords and key phrases, the more prominently your business will appear in search results and the more new customers you will attract as a result.

This is especially important as Christmas is approaching, as online shoppers will soon be flooding cyberspace with direct orders for Christmas presents, cards and decorations and seeking information online about where these items may be purchased locally. It’s also a well-known fact that most people using online search don’t bother clicking beyond the first page of search results, so an effective SEO marketing campaign will include very specific key words and phrases such as “discount Christmas tree ornaments Salisbury” or “gluten-free Christmas desserts Primrose Hill,” just to give two examples that will not likely be lost in the morass of search results yielded by more general key words and phrases.

Direct Submit Internet Marketing Services has emerged as one of Britain’s leaders in Internet marketing and search engine optimisation services for organisations of all sizes. Direct Submit embraces the philosophy that the most effective SEO campaigns are ethically sound and provide a mutual benefit to both the business and the client seeking your services.
